Parents: Pressure

So it seems no matter what, if you have Asian parents, your academic childhood life sucked at one point. No, I am not saying you lived your life in a torture chamber with no food and water and only a math textbook to accompany you, but I am saying that at one point you probably wanted to throw your desk out a window and into the fiery depths of hell. And its not only Asian parents that cause their kids to feel like this. Within every race and every society, there are parents who push their kids to their limits and beyond. Using Asian parents as an example, many of the pushy parents were raised in poverty stricken homes possibly in 3rd world countries or non-developed countries. It is easy to understand that they do not want their children to suffer as they had. They moved to America with only the clothes on their back, with maybe some knowledge of English, and made a life for themselves. Then they created you, and yada yada yada. Every time we complain, my mom brings up the "I walked in 2 feet of snow every winter for 3 miles to attend school" story. Not to downplay that story, but when you have heard that story 500 times along with the "I had to kill my own breakfast every morning" story, it loses its effect. Parents in general want to make sure their children are successful. It is in their souls and is hard-wired into their basic instincts. You think a mommy deer wants to see the baby deer grow up to be lazy and get hit by a car? Not really. In the natural world, only the strongest animals and people survive, so parents make a goal to make their children the fittest for survival. However, in the process of doing so, parents can push too hard and cause extreme reactions in their children.

From an Asian family, respect is everything. You respect the teachers. You respect your elders. And you definitely respect your parents. When stress builds up from taking all the pressure and nagging from your parents, it is hard to find a release. Sometimes, I feel like I'm going to explode. It is not like I hate my mother. Far from it, actually. I love her dearly, but sometimes she makes me want to jump out of the second story window behind me and into the rose bushes. From up to 7th grade, I was the nerdy student who did not hang out with my friends. Either because I did not have them, I was studying, or my friends were also studying because of their parents. I studied with my mom everyday, and life was fine for me. Studying was all I knew. In 7th grade, I entered PUBLIC middle school. That may not seem like such a big deal, but I came from a private Christian elementary school where my 6th grade class consisted of 7 people INCLUDING me (and that was the largest they had ever had). In middle school, it seemed like the focus was never on academics and more about socializing and "finding" yourself. I made new friends, and we actually hung out. And just like getting a taste of the forbidden fruit, I could never go back. It was fun to chill and not worry about my SAT's when I was only in 7th grade. In 7th and 8th grade, I allowed myself time to relax, but then my grades started slipping. Not enough to be startling, but enough for my mom to realize she needed to keep me in check and show me my priorities in life. Not that she need to tell me. I almost cried when my first B+ showed on my report card. And it was back to the books. But it was never the same. Now at this point, you may think I hate learning, which is far from the truth. Trust me, I love learning new things. It is just the studying and anti-social part I dislike. I hate the feeling of being alone, and when I study, sometimes I am reminded of that time.

Willingly I study and I am an A student, but sometimes all I want to do when I go home is just relax. Surf the Youtube. Sing a little. But when I do it I hear "Jennifer! I know you are watching videos in there! Do your homework and get back to work!" Alright. Once in while when she does that is fine. TWICE a day gets annoying. And wait. I know what you're thinking, "Then why don't you actually DO your work. Then she wouldn't yell at you." Well, let me break this down for you. I am taking 6 AP classes this year--none of which are those wimpy filler AP classes like Psychology (not that it's bad, just that, you have to admit, is not as challenging as other AP classes). I am also a volunteer for teaching Korean every Thursday. I help with an dog adoption foundation every Sunday. I tutor Saturday mornings, and every Saturday afternoon and Monday afternoon to evening, I work at my part-time job as a tutor. I am also in 5 honor societies and am the VP of one and the President of ASA. I am also in full-time college app mode. Is it too much to ask that I want a little mindless Youtube time? So its safe to say that sometimes, I get a little stressed out and can be volatile to blowing up. Ehem...sorry that was my rant.

The point is, parents should know that we know you love us all dearly. And we know you just want us to succeed, but just as you don't want us to tick you off after a long day of work, sometimes just a small question or statement can throw your teenager into a spiral of anger. So, parents, we love you, but sometimes we want you to just stop nagging at us because we are people too--contrary to popular belief--and we have limits to our patience--and sanity--also. Thanks!

New Dynamic Interface

So, as most people can see, blogger has changed from the original format to a dynamic format. Of course, the old format is still available for use, but who can resist a tech upgrade? Unfortunately, I am having trouble seeing the benefit of the new format besides the fact it looks cool (which is a big incentive on its part). I'll have to figure out how to write CSS codes to personalize my blog if I do dynamic view. Meanwhile also figuring out how to keep my music player and video of the week playlist. sighsighsigh

Pet Peeves

Everybody has their own pet peeves. For some its messiness and for others it is the little plastic tip at the the end of your shoelace (AGLET!!!!!). For me it is people who break their promises and untidyness.

I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE BREAK THEIR PROMISES. I go like ape-crazy if they do that and tend to over-react. I can't help it. It is just the thing that ticks me off the most. Most would just go with it and let it roll off like water on a warthog's back, but the act bugs me beyond belief.

The other thing that pisses me off is untidyness. This I find a little weird considering the state of my desk (messy but and organized mess). I hate untidyness in people, places, behavior, everything! I believe everybody should always carry themselves neatly to and from places ON TIME!!!! Tidyness includes BEING ON TIME!!!!! (The greatest of the hatreds in the category of untidyness)

Anyway, that was just a random little post to show you that I am still alive and haven't forgotten about this blog. Just bored. I want to create a video soon about reviews I did. Thanks bye!

NH Media Auditions

The NH Media Auditions started in a May from a tweet by the manager of U-KISS. I put it off because of all the things I had to prepare and do. Unfortunately, I put it off till mid-July. By which, they already selected all the girls of the group they wanted to create. This goes to show, don't hesitate, just do it. If you hesitate, you may miss your chance.

Korean Skin Products

Koreans are known to have really beautiful natural skin. It literally glows and mocks you with its flawless, blemishness. (Trust me, my dad had skin like that :P ). Anyway, I decided to try some Korean beauty products because of this. Koreans are known to focus a lot on physical and outer beauty; therefore, it makes sense that their skin, hair, and beauty products are some of the best in the world. They also have more care to put on your skin like essences and creams. All of them work really well. Koreans spend a lot of time on their skin, and it obviously reaps good results. However, remember, their good skin also comes from their diet of veggies and water. I decided that I would try some of these products soon. (When I run out of my current cleanser).

Sadly, in VA, there are not many Korean beauty supply stores. There is one in Annandale called The Amore, which is the parent company of IOPE and Laneige, but it is an hour away from my house :(. HOWEVER, THE INTERNET ALWAYS PREVAILS! I have found some good websites that have fairly-priced Korean cosmetics and skin products. Currently, I'm looking at O HUI, Isa Knox, and Laneige (some really expensive stuff!!!). I think I am going to get a whitening system and a hydrating night system and a pack. I want to regain my lighter, glowing skin and fade my acne scars. My mom refuses to take me, though, until after my SAT II exams in June. We'll see. UPDATES TO COME AND QUESTIONS WELCOME! Acne? Treatments

As a girl, I struggle to battle and conceal my acne as much as I can. Here are some handy solutions to control your acne. If anything, its always good for anybody to spend extra time tending to their skin. After all, the first thing somebody sees is your skin.

Natural:
I thought of this video.
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT MINE, IT IS SECRETLIFEOFABIONERD'S
Try it! It's a good natural solution. A mixture of sea salt and water can work! Just remember like she says! Don't do it for more than a month. Stop. And use it again only when you need it.

Cleansers:
Choosing an acne cleanser can be hard depending on what skin type you have and what causes your acne. Most people who have acne are teenagers or young adults who deal with a lot of stress and hormones. This is the biggest cause of acne. Cleansers for this could be like neutrogena stress control. Oil control is also good for oily skin. You really should only use the brightening face cleansers or washes after your acne clears away during your later teen years. This will help fade scars and brighten your skin. Choosing a cleanser that does two jobs is also good. The less chemicals you put on your skin, with more acne fighting power, is a good thing. One that I know of is Clearasil's Acne and Marks Cleanser. AND DON'T FORGET TO PULL BACK YOUR HAIR/BANGS SO YOU CAN REACH ALL OF YOUR SKIN!

There are specialized cleansers for nighttime use also. I recommend the Clearasil Overnight Wash. I have only heard good reviews from it.

Scrubs:
A good scrub is also good for people with severe acne or just want cleaner skin. Scrubs penetrate deep into your pores to get rid of excess dirt and oil that builds up and causes acne. I personally don't use scrubs everyday. I think 2-4 times a week is good for me. It really depends on your skin and acne levels.

Masks:
Another good addition to your skin regime is the use of a mask. Masks, like scrubs, clean deep down. Good masks will give you a tingly sensation from your pores opening up and getting cleansed. Masks really let your skin breathe. I once tried my mom's Lancome white clay mask. It was really good; however, I am not saying get a Lancome one. There are cheaper options. Really look at what type of mask it is and what it is made of. Try them out and when you find one that suits your skin (doesn't dry it out or actually helps), stick to it. Use a mask a few times in a week at most. Don't do it everyday because that would severely dry out your skin.

Toner:
The job of a toner is to do another cleaning job on your skin and also to shrink your pores. Really, this is just preference. I normally get a water based one rather than oil or alcohol. I just feel like it's gentler to my skin.

Moisturizer:
Always a super important part of any regime. Moisturizer keeps your skin young looking and fresh. Don't pick one that will clog your pores because it is too thick. For those who don't know the difference between lotion and facial moisturizers, DON'T USE BODY LOTION ON YOUR FACE!!! Body lotion is too thick and can clog your pores. Clogging = ACNE. Use a face moisturizer or cream. For super sensitive skin, use a baby cream (that's what I use--just don't confuse the bottle of cream and lotion).

Spot Treatment:
This is for bedtime use only. Don't use these in the morning, or you will walk around with either an extremely shiny zit or a dried up one. These are super powerful tubes of acne zapping greatness. Seriously, this stuff is strong. When you put it on the acne, you feel the burn (don't worry, that is a good thing unless you get a rash--then its too powerful for you). If you put it close to your eyes, it makes them water. I recommend my super-powerful one: Clean and Clears Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. It contains like 10% Benzoyl Peroxide. Anything with Salicilic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide will help with acne.

Acne Treatment Sets:
A good way to get all of this in a bundle is an acne control set. You can find these and research them for yourself. But basically, they contain a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a spot treatment mostly. Since its a set, they normally work off of each other, which is good. I recommend these only to people with severe acne (acne all over their face). Those of us that get a few pimples and freak should stick to spot treatments. Good sets include but are not limited to: Clean and Clear Spot Treatment, Neutrogena Skin ID, and Proactive.

Morning Routine:
  • Cleanser
  • Scrub (optional)
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer/Sunscreen (I'll write more about the importance of sunscreen later)
  • Moisturizer/Sunscreen
  • Makeup (if you want to, but I don't recommend it if you have acne--I'll write a post later about how to properly cover a pimple)
Mid-Day Routine:
  • Oil-blotting sheets (if you have oily skin)
  • Cleanser (only if you have time...I really don't know anybody that would do this)

Night Routing:
  • Cleanser (& Make-up remover)
  • Scrub (optional)
  • Mask (optional)
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer
  • Spot Treatment

STICK BY THIS ROUTINE! DON'T BREAK IT AND NEVER FORGET TO WASH YOUR FACE EVEN IF THAT IS ALL YOU ARE GOING TO DO! THERE IS SO MUCH BUILDUP ON YOUR SKIN SO NEVER FORGET TO CLEAN IT!!!!

NOW. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have severe acne, its always a good idea to consult your dermatologist. They can prescribe more powerful acne medications to control raging acne. Anyway, all of this I learned through experience and reviews.

A Pink - I Don't Know Review

So lately I've had the song "I Don't Know" by A Pink (a new girl group) stuck in my head. I only watched it once and it just popped up randomly. So I watched the video again a few more times. I break my reviews into first impressions, video, dance, concept, and overall.

First Impressions:
The first thing I thought of was that these girls were not that pretty. I don't mean that in a mean way, but I mean, they don't look like perfect little dolls which are common in the KPop scene. They look natural. However, I mean they could go astray like Dal Shabet from Supa Dupa Diva to Pink Rocket. However, even so. I still feel like they all look alike. And trust me I was trying to tell the difference. (I am Asian and I don't like it when people tell us we all look alike)

Video:
OMG! Kikwang was in the video! He's so cute

Then I was like. Wow, should the director have made the girls wear heels. He's shorter than all of them when they have heels one. Maybe that's why they had so many sitting scenes.

My next thought was, "Wow. They are all such creepers." I'm not bashing, but wouldn't you be freaked out a bit (even if it is a KPop idol) that a random stranger sneaked into your room and was watching you sleep? Also, how did he get there? Was it like T-Ara's Yayaya where he crashed a plane? And if he was stranded there, how did he get out in the end? Why did it also look like there was only one bedroom in the entire house?

Dance:
The dance looked really cutesy. When I first saw it, I had the impression of a little girl skipping down a meadow. I really did like the clapping move though. I think I'm try that someday in the middle of school :)

Concept:
I understand the concept is clean and cute. This is a debut MV for a girl group so it fits the cutesy parameters. However; the girls sometimes look like they are trying painfully hard to act cute. Some girls can act cute naturally, but never force it. You can act cute just don't over do it or you look like you are choking on a too sweet piece of candy.
No bashing on my part. I normally love the cute concept, but natural or even slightly feigned cuteness is better that "MUST ACT CUTE! GIGGLE GIGGLE GIGGLE!"

Overall:
The music was good. I thought it was a sweet cute song. The video was a little over the top for me on the cuteness level, but it was clean and good. I am just having trouble imagining this group diverging from the cute concept.

Art Designer

SUCCESS! I HAVE A NEW PARTNER-IN-CRIME FOR THIS BLOG. My good friend Masie has graciously agreed to become my new art editor/consultant. Together we'll be managing the artistic and design aspects of this blog! Without her, I the blog would probably be very plain. Anyway! THANKS!

NEW SITE!

Alright, so technically it's not really new. But it looks new! (with a new name and focus and everything!) As you now know. Enjoy the Sunshine has now become My Inner Child! This site should still be helpful and (pensive?) interesting, but it looks cooler ;) anyway! enjoy!

Health and Beauty...

I haven't decided yet, but I know I am going to either create a new blog or branch off of this one on health and beauty and more...Currently I am leaning toward branching on this one. Updates and more to come!

Anagrams!

Whew! 3rd post in one day! Anyway! This one is way short compared to the last one.

Anagrams are basically taking a name or phrase and rearranging it into other words. This website can take your name and rearrange it into an anagram!

If I type in: AZN Sunshine
I get: NUN'S HAZE SIN
lol
Try it!

http://deanjackson.dj/nameanagram/index.php

simonandmartina

To all of those who love kpop, you should know these names. To those who don't.....DO YOU LIVE UNDER A FREAKIN' ROCK! Sorry....anyway.

I LOVE Simon and Martina! This Canadia duo is amazing. To also prove their awesomeness, they called their blog EATYOURKIMCHI (you gotta love that)! They do all sorts of crazy and fun things in Korea. I believe they are English teachers that teach English (no duh!) to Korean students. Therefore they live in Korea (really?!). I have been watching their channel for a while now, and I recommend that anybody who loves those wacky Koreans (take no offense, I am half-Korean) should watch their channel, simonandmartina. All the videos are in English. Thank goodness because I cannot speak Korean :) A lot of their videos provide an interesting foreigner outlook of Korean customs. The link is:
http://www.youtube.com/user/simonandmartina

Every Monday, they release on of their Music Mondays where they release their review of a requested KPop music video. They rate it based on the actual video, the dance, and the English (being the grammar freaks [like me!] that they are). Request a current video, and you'll probably find a review of it soon.

They also have a new WTF segment in the Korea FTW section. It stands for Wonderful Treasure Find. They have great video's on poop cards to nose-shapers!

Among all those videos are also just videos about life in Korea. With their beautiful camera, they show great landscapes, cityscapes, and foodscapes of Korea. It seriously makes it really tempting to just fly to Korea with an empty suitcase and go shop all day long along with a camera.

Now also on their blog is a section of FAQ's about Korea. In there, they discuss living in Korea, food, Bucheon (the area where they live), blogging, pets in Korea, and teaching in Korea.

If you want to become a teacher in Korea even if you don't speak Korean, it is a great source.

I also recommend subscribing to their weekly newsletter. It provides links to new videos and also talks about Korean culture. There is also a Korean slang word thrown in their with a definition. GREAT STUFF GUYS!!!! I hope you people look into it because it is an amazing site!

New Blog~~~

Alright! My new blog is up and running! How exciting! For those of you who will read this (and I don't think that will be many) this will be my blog that I will update regularly (hopefully!) on basically anything I can find or write about.

WARNING: This blog will hopefully not contain any boring political stuff. If you want that...well tough, go read the newspaper.

I plan to write reviews about music, food, and products. I also wish to share some of my experiences (few as they may be) with anybody who wants to read about it to perhaps compare it with their own.

Overall, this is my blog to have fun with!
Thanks!
